How it works

RUT numbers are validated with the official modulo-11 algorithm: each digit, right to left, is multiplied by the repeating series 2-3-4-5-6-7, the products are summed, and the check digit is 11 minus the remainder of dividing by 11. A remainder of 11 yields "0" and 10 yields "K". All computation happens in your browser; no data leaves your device.

Frequently asked questions

How is the RUT check digit computed?

Digits are multiplied right-to-left by the repeating series 2-3-4-5-6-7, summed, divided by 11 and subtracted from 11: 11→0, 10→K.

What does a K digit mean?

It is the value 10 of modulo 11, represented by the letter K. It is as valid as any number.

Does the dots-and-dash format matter?

Not for the computation: you can write 12.345.678-5 or 123456785. This tool accepts both.
