Your pet age in human years
Convert your dog or cat age to its human-years equivalent.
The "multiply by 7" rule is a myth. Use the real veterinary equivalence by species and age.

How it works
How it works: dog: 1st year = 15 human years, 2nd = 24, each extra year adds 5. Cat: 1st year = 15, 2nd = 24, each extra adds 4. Approximate developmental equivalences, not an exact biological conversion.
Frequently asked questions
Why doesn't multiply-by-7 work?
Because dogs mature super fast the first year (a 1-year-old pup is already a teenager). The real equivalence is curved, not linear.
Do large breeds age the same?
Not exactly: large breeds age faster after 5-6 years. This calculator uses the general average.
What about senior cats?
From 11 years they are considered senior and a vet check every 6 months is wise, same as dogs over 7-8 years.
